Melissa Digo is a multidisciplinary professional with expertise in medical technology, education, research, tool development, translation, and training. A licensed Medical Technologist, she holds a bachelor’s degree in medical technology. She is also a masters degree holder in Reading (Literacy) Education from the University of the Philippines (UP) and currently pursuing doctoral studies in research and evaluation at UP College of Education.
Her teaching experience spans preschool to tertiary levels, including homeschool. Currently she serves as a Senior Lecturer at the UP College of Education.
As a researcher, she has contributed to national education research at UP Diliman through projects with the Research and Development Foundation of the College of Education, Inc. (RDFCEI) and the Assessment, Curriculum, and Technology Research Center (ACTRC), in collaboration with the University of Melbourne and the Philippines Department of Education. In these projects, she was part of the test development team and she led the translation of the student assessment tests to Philippine languages of Cebuano, Maguindanaon, Maranao, Tausug, and Sinama, and the administration of the tests nationwide.
At UP Manila–Philippine General Hospital, she led research, training, and fieldwork for a national mental health survey and headed the translation efforts for World Health Organization – World Mental Health (WHO-WMH) mental health tools into Philippine languages – Filipino, Cebuano, Ilocano, Bicolano, working with Harvard Medical School and the University of Michigan.
Throughout her career, she has worked with international agencies such as AusAID and the Australian Government Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT), USAID, UNICEF, and Save the Children. She has facilitated nationwide trainings for educators, researchers and fieldworkers, and administrators, and also reviewed tests for schools and the accreditation test for the Kapisanan ng mga Brodkaster ng Pilipinas (KBP).
At present, she is a University Researcher at UP NCPAG’s Center for Leadership, Citizenship and Democracy (CLCD), and led in projects on agriculture, justice, civic education, and governance. Her recent and current initiatives include leading the CLCD projects The UP NCPAG–FVR Leadership Fellowship Program, the 13th ISTR Asia-Pacific Regional Conference, the Department of the Interior and Local Government research on local government unit (LGU) infrastructure governance, the Cebu Leaders Forum, and the Conference for Persons Restored of Liberty.
