Student achievers honored at Parangal

The University of the Philippines Diliman (UPD) conferred awards and recognition to students of the University who excelled in the fields of academics, volunteerism, sports, and governance on May 18, 2016 in a program dubbed as Parangal sa mga Mag-aaral 2016.

Three students of the National College of Public Administration (NCPAG) were recognized for their achievements in sports. They are fencing varsity team member Rafael Alfonso Rondain who bagged a gold medal from the Asian’s Varsity Fencing Championship in Singapore as part of the Men’s Foil team and a bronze medal from the Men’s Epee Team in the same competition; Kattia Pineda from the Women’s Epee Team who received a gold medal from the Asian’s Varsity Fencing Championship competition; and Francesca Abueg, a member of the UP Pep Squad, which placed second in the 9th Cheerleading Asia World Championships in Tokyo, Japan under the category of Cheerleading Small Groups Mixed.

NCPAG Student Council, meanwhile, was recognized as a gold recipient of the Seal of Good Governance, along with the College of Mass Communication, School of Economics, College of Engineering, School of Statistics, and College of Business Administration student councils. The Seal symbolizes integrity and good performance of the councils for the academic year 2015-2016.

Students who earned a General Weighted Average (GWA) of at least 1.45 in the second semester of AY 2014-2015 and first semester of AY 2015-2016 were also honored as University Scholars (US).
