Our History
1952
  • Renamed to Graduate School of Public Administration (GSPA).
  • Changed name to College of Public Administration (CPA).
  • Formally launched Local Government Research Project (LGRP), then later, dissolved and became Local Government Center (LGC).
  • Significant revision on MPA curriculum, offered two plans: Plan A, a thesis program, and Plan B, designed for practitioners.
  • Curricular revisions featured a new Doctor of Public Administration and also offered a Certificate in Public Administration.
1962
  • Changed name to College of Public Administration (CPA).

  • Revised academic curriculum, changed MPA Plan A to CGM (Certificate in Governmental Management), and reduced the units of MPA Plan B program, with no more oral examination required.
1982
  • Major curricular change, offered Public Policy and Program Administration (PPPA) as a new MPA area of specialization.
  • Offered diploma program.
  • Formally created Center for Policy and Administrative Development (CPAD), to undertake research and continue training functions.
1992
  • Finally transformed into the National College of Public Administration and Governance (NCPAG).
  • Transformed CPAD into Center for Policy and Executive Development (CPED).
  • LGC was also changed to Center for Local and Regional Governance (CLRG).
2012

  • NCPAG Dean and faculty received international publication award, best paper award, prestigious 2019 Virginia A. Miralao (VAM) Excellence in Research Award 
  • NCPAG students won in UN Conference 
  • NCPAG faculties appointed officials to other government agencies
  • Continuous trainings and partnerships conducted and built by Centers and the College
  • PJPA received a Journal Incubation Grant from the Commission on Higher Education (CHED)
2022
  • Received recognition from the Anti-Red Tape Authority (ARTA) and participated in the 23rd UN CEPA session.
  • Launched major fellowship programs under UP NCPAG CLCD:
    • Fidel V. Ramos LEAD4R Fellowship
    • Roberto R. Romulo Fellowship on governance and public health leadership
  • CPEC, CLCD, and CLRG continued offering extensive training programs, seminars, and research initiatives.
  • Strengthened collaborations with LGUs, schools, national agencies, foundations, and other institutions.
  • Expanded international opportunities, including undergraduate student exchanges.
  • Partnered on special projects such as:
    • GRIT Labs
    • Governance Futures Lab (GFL)
    • Lincoln UNESCO initiatives
  • Regular publication of the Philippine Journal of Public Administration (PJPA) and other scholarly works.
  • Released notable publications, including:
    • Post-Pandemic Policy for Food Security (Volumes 1 & 2)
    • Analysis of the 2019 Expanded Maternity Leave Law
  • Organized and participated in key conferences, including those co-hosted with EROPA in Hanoi and Yogyakarta.
2025

  • NCPAG to offer new degree programs, Master of Public Policy (MPP) and Executive Master of Public Administration (EMPA).
  • NCPAG, in partnership with ASPAP and PSPA, ushered in this year's Public Administration week celebration with the inaugural launch of PAhayag Masterclass seminar series.
  • The 19th Congress has adopted House Resolution No. 2203 urging the national government to support and collaborate with UP NCPAG and its partner associations.
  • Turned over new NCPAG Student Lounge.
  • Various media engagements of NCPAG faculties (DZMM Teleradyo, Bilyonaryo News, Channel, GMA, TV5, PTV4).
  • Continuous trainings and seminars offered by the Centers (CLCD, CLRG, CPED).
  • NCPAG, through GRIT Labs, held the 7th installment of its International Academic Seminar (IAS), for the first time, under the banner of PAntalastasan, platform for socially relevant and purpose-driven academic dialogue.
  • CLCD in partnership with the FVR Legacy initiative and the Management Association of the Philippines (MAP), successfully concluded The UP-NCPAG - Fidel V. Ramos LEAD4R Fellowship Program 2024-2025.
