The two-day symposium held at and hosted by the Education University of Hong Kong (Educ UHK) was co-organized by eight Asian higher education institutions: School of Political Science and Public Administration, Wuhan University (China); Faculty of Political Science and Public Administration, Chiang Mai University (Thailand); School of Public Administration, South China University of Technology (SCUT) (China); College of ASEAN Community Studies, Naresuan University (Thailand); National College of Public Administration and Governance (NCPAG) and Asian Center, University of the Philippines Diliman (Philippines); Institute of Public Policy and Administration, The University of Central Asia (Kyrgyz Republic); and Institute of Local Governance, Central South University (China).

The research symposium aimed to “explore the multifarious ways in which public management is being transformed and the pathways of governance innovation, new and emergent transformations in the way governments are responding to increasing public demand for effective and efficient delivery in the provision of public goods and services, as well as public sector responses to increasing demands for transparency and accountability in the management of public finances,” said the organizers.

In her opening remarks, Dean Maria Fe Villamejor-Mendoza of NCPAG described the symposium as “a very good initiative [to] learn, share and cooperate with each other in making our governments and public administration better, more responsive, fairer and more caring for our peoples.”

Mendoza also thanked the Department of Asian and Policy Studies of the Educ UHK, which initiated the meetings that led to NCPAG’s inclusion in the organizing team of the symposium.
